Operation Varsity Blues: Parents & Coach to Plead Guilty in College Admissions Scandal

Posted on Sunday, March 31st, 2019 at 12:03 pm

All news and media outlets have been taken over with coverage regarding the college admissions scandal, codenamed Operation Varsity Blues, as over a dozen individuals have been named in lawsuits for fraud, mail fraud, conspiracy, racketeering, bribery, and money laundering. This expansive investigation made headlines once federal prosecutors announced the government had charged countless people for defrauding the government. Among them is former Desperate Housewives actress Felicity Huffman, who was arrested, agreed to plead guilty, and now faces prison time.

The defendants who admitted to taking unlawful tax deductions will cooperate with the IRS. Federal prosecutors are harshly pursuing this case as Huffman herself faces up to 20 years behind bars though she is eligible for a lessened sentence for cooperation and agreeing to plead guilty. Students have not yet been prosecuted or sought out in this case. To read more about this developing investigation, click here.
